The path up to Nepeta's cave has been carefully shoveled free of snow.

(Okay, not so much "carefully shoveled" as "joyfully blasted". If there's one thing laser claws are good for that isn't fighting, it's carving through annoying stuff that's in your way. There are a few vitrified and/or half-melted fragments of rock lining the path. Don't worry; none of them are still steaming.)

Up close to the cave mouth, two huge cats have been sculpted out of snow in guarding positions, one on either side of the path such that any visitors will have to pass between them. They look incredibly ~~adorable~~ menacing.

Invited guests are welcome! Uninvited guests will probably be warned off before the cave's automatic defense systems kick in.

"Oh! Um. They Side Into Your Pockets, And Allow You To Store Objects In Them Without Taking Up Space. Like This."

Idly, Kanaya snatches a rather large bolt of cloth from her sylladex, turning it over in her hands before putting it back.

Alyx blinks in surprise. "That's... impressive. What powers it?"

Shephard's kind of curious himself, since he doesn't want the power running out at a bad time. Not that he expects that to happen, but shit, you never know.

Shephard's presence receives another smile.

"To My Knowledge, Nothing Powers It. I Have Been Using Mine Since I Have Been Old Enough To Handle One. It's Mostly Storage-And-Retrieval Abstraction, Pulling Something Out Of Nothing And Somewhere All At Once"

"Oh...kayyy... so how do get stuff out of it? Is there an upper limit of how much it can carry?"

"With Yours And Gordon's, There Are Six Objects Of Any Size Allowed To Be Stored On Each Insert. Shephard, Yours Is A Bit More Complicated, As The Jacket I Made You Is Made Mostly Of Cards In The Lining."

"The Premise For Access Is Still The Same, Though, If You Two Will Fetch Your Moduses?"

Shephard nods and retrieves his jacket. Even without the lining, it's a fine damn piece of work.

Alyx hands over the pocket liners, still looking slightly confused.

Kanaya shakes her head at Alyx.

"Hold Onto Them. Storing And Retrieving An Item Is Simpler Than Setting Your Strifekind, So We Will Begin With That."

She pulls two small items out from her own sylladex, and places one in front of each of them.

"Take Those, And I Want You To Focus On Storing It. When You Are Wearing Them Properly, You Will More Than Likely Want To Make To Put The Object In Your Pocket While You Focus On Doing This. Sometimes Muscle Memetics Help, Until You Are Familiar With Your Sylladex."

Shephard nods, frowning a little, but does exactly as he's told. He's good at that.

Alyx closes her eyes and slips into the breathing exercises she uses while meditating. Whether this will help or not has yet to be determined.

Kanaya waits patiently for the two of them to complete the exercise. She's not waiting for long, thankfully, because the two objects disappear after a few moments.

"There," she says almost as soon as they disappear. "Did You Two Feel That?"

"Sure did," says Shephard. "Is it always gonna feel like that?"

Alyx peeks one eye open. Yep, that was something, all right.

"You Get Used To The Sensation," she answers. "I Don't Really Even Notice It Anymore."

Beat.

"It's Sort Of Hard To Explain, But If You're...In That Same Headspace? You Can Kind Of Take Mental Stock Of What You Have Stored."

"What, can't you just remember what you've put in your pockets?"

"You Can, Yes, But Some Sylladexes, Like Shephard's Or Mine, Are Much Larger Than Yours, So That Is A Way To See What You Have."

"Right, Now I Want You Two To Take Your Objects Out Again."

That part's not too difficult. Shephard's kind of used to the idea of weird shit in weird places by now.

Alyx closes her eyes again. It may take her a while to be able to use her sylladex inserts without needing to slip into meditation mode.

The object appears a lot more quickly than it does for Alyx, but it does happen all around and Kanaya is smiling proudly.

"Excellent. Now, You Two Can Practice That On Your Own In Your Free Time."

Beat.

"Would You Like Me To Help You Two Set Your Strife Specibus Next?"

"Yeah, sure," says Shephard. "Ain't real clear on that one, to be honest."

"Me neither."

"Take A Breath, And A Moment To Clear Your Thoughts. Keep Hold Of Things As You Have Been And Focus On Bringing Up Your Strife Portfolio In Your Mind's Eye, It Should Resemble A Wallet Of Sorts. It Will Get Easier With Time, Like With The Sylladexes But For Now, This Should Help. Now, Do You See The Green Strife Deck Card?"

"Yeah..."
